This course covers the fundamental engineering sciences of thermodynamics, gas dynamics, heat transfer, and mechanics, as well as the concepts and theories of internal combustion engine operation. The design and operation of traditional spark-ignition (Gasoline) and compression-ignition engines are discussed (DieselThermodynamic ideal cycles are examined and contrasted with real-world cycles. The induction and exhaust processes of fuel and air are investigated. Pollution formation is discussed, as well as engine operating characteristics.
